Christmas markets with a difference

Christmas markets with a difference
Christmas markets are a great way to enjoy a break before Christmas as well as find unique presents for your loved ones. Many cities and towns throughout Europe now have Christmas markets. We asked our experts, though, to come up with their top choices of Christmas markets with a difference. Here are their ideas for you to enjoy this year.

1. Montreux

Montreux is top of our list. There is no sight quite like seeing Santa flying high in the sky above Montreux. As you sip mulled wine you will be amazed to see Santa and his reindeer fly over the shores of Lake Geneva (from 21 November to 24 December 2019). Grand Rue, the central road along Lake Geneva, is transformed. Over 150 brightly lit chalets display their festive wares. Montreux Noël is quite an event. A magic garden is created illuminated with sculptures, sound and light shows and elves can be found in the gardens of Casino Barriere. The Chateau de Chillon becomes home to magical characters including jugglers, storytellers and dancers. Above the city, blanketed in snow, you can visit Santa’s grotto on the mountain Rochers de Naye.
